Paula Frisby

Paula is the Labour Party Candidate for Hatherleigh and Chagford

My name is Paula. I'm a 46yr old mental health worker standing for Chagford and Hatherleigh. I've lived in Devon over 20yrs, and have spent most of my working life in social care / housing / homelessness and education.
I became a member of the Labour Party as they are the only Party committed to equality and inclusiveness for all.
For Devon, I'm particularly interested in:
  • Stopping any hospital closures
  • Proper funding with no cuts for social care and schools
  • Affordable housing across Devon so young people don't have to move away if they don't want to, and people aren't priced out of their towns and villages.
I have spent a lot of time working with children and young people through youth work, and residential children's homes, and have seen how this government is failing our youngsters on every level. It's got to stop!
I promise to fight against the hospital and bed closures every step of the way, and believe we cannot loose these vital services.
As a mental health worker I see on a daily basis the chaos in our NHS, housing projects, and mental health services due to the huge funding cuts from this Tory government, and I will do everything possible if I become county councillor to argue and fight for more funding, and to hold the government to account for the damage it's doing to our vital local services.

Too simplistic. We all want better healthcare, education, housing etc but no one wants to pay for it. Govt has no money of its own – only what it gets from taxpayers. These same taxpayers complain if the taxes go up on booze, petrol, houses etc. I would be more interested in what you as an individual do, what sort of sacrifices you make to help the local community, what your moral standards are. Because that is the basis on which I will be voting today. Your harangue is just standard politico’s cliche – blame the current government for everything. Don’t you think that previous governments and the people are to blame for anything?
